Other martini options include the Bleu & Gold (made with olive juice and blue cheese-stuffed olives) and a Lemon Drop that’s topped with limoncello foam. Two different espresso martinis will satisfy Houstonians’ seemingly limitless cravings for the drink. Again, the plate was cold and the burger was just warm served with barely warm fries. Located on the hotel’s first floor, Maven Coffee has a dedicated entrance near the valet stand. Founded by Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and his business partners, the new location builds on Maven Coffee’s success operating carts at Minute Maid Park and Toyota Center. Designed to be both a cafe and a cocktail bar, it will serve coffee in the morning with cocktails, wine, and beer beginning at 10 am daily.

Walsh said the dancers were tipped off that Jagger would stop by. "His visit had the dancers buzzing on Saturday," said the ballet star.We were all excited to have such an accomplished artist and icon watch us work. Especially in a ballet like Mayerling that’s choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan and was premiered at the Royal Ballet where Mick has had a long history supporting. CHAPMAN & KIRBY, THE premier event destination in Houston’s East Village, is thrilled to announce the launch of its Spring Music Series, kicking off on Friday, April 12. Chapman & Kirby has become synonymous with top-tier events and unforgettable experiences, many attended by celebrities both local and worldwide.
Drake’s Hollywood’s See and Be Seen Allure
A lot of our senior leaders come from Hillstone, but we are a very different organization from Hillstone, although a lot of their training ethos has been carried forward into what we do. Vandelay Hospitality restaurants are not chef-driven by design (James Douglas is the group’s culinary officer). Hudson House is Vandelay’s first full-service restaurant in Houston’s River Oaks area. Construction delays — care of a change of ownership at River Oaks Shopping Center and plans for an aesthetic revamp of its façade — left Hudson House simmering on the back burner. Jagger also posted a short video of him singing “Start Me Up” at the concert, and also two still photos from the show last night. In all, the NASA post has received nearly 100,000 likes so far, with the around-town images racking up about 45,000 and counting.

Inspired by Hollywood glamour, expect a luxurious setting – think red leather booths and soft lighting – with a menu of steaks, veal meatballs, snow-crab scampi, assorted pizzas, and gussied-up salads. The restaurant's spin on chicken and waffles uses a red velvet waffle and extra crispy double fried chicken. "I've always loved the vibe of the West Village and New York city neighborhood restaurants," founder Hunter Pond told CultureMap Dallas in 2017. "So this is an American neighborhood restaurant — a weekly dining destination for the neighborhood, and for people who are craving an intimate and cozy environment." The Dallas restaurant group’s initial entry into the Houston market several years ago was the fast-casual East Hampton Sandwich Company, but that didn’t go quite as planned.
Over the course of the last year, the River Oaks Shopping Center has added two prominent restaurants in Zanti Cucina Italiana and Mediterranean fine dining restaurant Albi. Even as it prepares to open Hudson House, Vandelay already has another Houston restaurant in the works. Drake’s Hollywood, a luxurious steakhouse, has claimed the former Underbelly location at 1100 Westheimer Rd for a location that’s expected to open in late 2023.
Hudson House, a Dallas eatery known for its icy cold martinis and a seriously solid cheeseburger, is plotting an expansion to Houston. "I'm hoping it's a place that's approachable, where high school kids can enjoy a Friday night cheeseburger, while at the table next to them is the couple that wants to get a shellfish tower and bottle of champagne," Pond added. A popular Dallas destination for burgers and oysters is coming to Houston. Hudson House will open in the River Oaks Shopping Center in late 2021, the restaurant announced in a release. “Even though the moniker of ‘chain’ might be negative in nature, I take pride in the fact that we’ve built something that is cool and calculable.” What sets the Vandelay restaurants apart, in Pond’s estimation, is service.

For weekend “West Village” brunch, look for classic lox and bagels, pancakes with blueberry compote, eggs Benedict, French toast, and a Hudson sandwich with smoked bacon and scrambled eggs. Lunch is flush with sandwiches and big salads such as the Hudson with popcorn chicken, bacon and green goddess dressing, and the Beverly with grilled shrimp, hearts of palm and avocado. It’s been two years in the making, but this week finally marks the long-awaited opening of Hudson House in River Oaks, the Dallas-based restaurant import. Hudson House’s operators, Vandelay Hospitality Group, describe it as a coastal-inspired restaurant specializing in oysters flown in daily from the waters off the East Coast, mingled with straightforward American food.
The food leans heavily on approachable Italian American dishes such as pastas, white fish piccata, veal meatballs, snow-crab scampi and four varieties of pizza. There are a few chilled noshes too, such as hamachi crudo and pressed toro roll, as well as a nod to Asian-inspired king crab Rangoon and truffle-scented fried rice. Created by chef Nicolás “Nico” Baizán de Aldecoa, the food menu starts with three sandwiches — Truffle Grilled Cheese on a croissant, Jamon and Cheese, and a vegetable sandwich. Maven serves breads from Magnol French Baking, croissants from Love Croissants, and juices by JuiceWell. Vandelay Hospitality has another Houston restaurant in the works for late 2023. Drake’s Hollywood, an upscale steakhouse known for a see-and-be-seen setting, has claimed the former Underbelly location on Westheimer in Montrose.
Their Texas homegrown group now boasts 10 different restaurants in Dallas, with one outpost in Beverly Hills (Hudson House) and one in West Hollywood (Drake’s Hollywood). The interior features artwork from Segreto Finishes and Serrano Gallery, including paintings by Oaxacan artist Didier Mayés. Works by other Mexican artists will regularly rotate through the cafe and bar. To help give people the proper warm, cozy feelings, the restaurant’s design features lots of natural light, navy leather booths, brass light fixtures, and on-trend greenery throughout the dining room. The busy fall restaurant opening season takes another step forward with a new restaurant devoted to classic American fare. Hudson House will open Wednesday, November 1 in the River Oaks Shopping Center next to Brasserie 19 (1966 W Gray St.).
Inspired by classic Hollywood glam, the restaurant serves steaks, pizzas, appetizers, and more in a luxurious environment. AN APPROPRIATELY DRAMATIC event, this year’s Alley Ball transformed the Post Oak Hotel into an old-Hollywood-themed tribute to Alfred Hitchcock. Bold red curtains framed large screens playing black and white clips of classic Hitchcock films, and the centerpieces made of dark red roses had crows hidden in them! This was the backdrop for a spellbinding night that raised $1.22 mil for the theater. It’s a description made by Vandelay’s CEO/owner, Hunter Pond, when I spoke with him while standing in the unfinished space a couple of months ago. A rapidly-growing Houston coffee company will open its first brick and mortar location this week.
With concert ticket prices soaring to hundreds and even thousands of dollars in the last year, this eight-week music series promises to be a welcomed opportunity to engage with live music for free, showcasing an eclectic lineup of talented acts. What sets Vandelay’s restaurants apart, in Pond’s estimation, is service. Playing up the coastal seafood theme are entrees such as a soy-glazed, maple-planked salmon ($42) and pan-seared lump crab cakes ($48). These HUD properties include single-family houses, apartments, duplexes, and townhouses. Being pre-qualified before attempting to purchase a HUD property is very important.
The menu focuses on East Coast-inspired dishes paired with classic cocktails. Elsewhere on the menu, diners can look forward to honey-grilled chicken sandwiches, lobster rolls, and hearty entrees like chicken parmesan and salmon grilled over a maple plank. Hudson House is also a popular brunch destination in Dallas, thanks to its red velvet chicken and waffles, avocado toast, and eggs Benedict loaded down with lobster. The restaurant is a project of restaurateur Hunter Pond’s Vandelay Hospitality, who brought his fast-casual sandwich chain East Hampton Sandwich Company to Houston in 2018. The first location, opened in Montrose, has since closed, but the River Oaks outpost continues to operate. Based in Dallas, Hudson House currently operates three outposts in the city, where it’s earned raves for its upscale-but-casual vibe, strong selection of briny East Coast oysters, and a killer happy hour that involves expertly mixed $5 martinis.
Having visited the Dallas Drake’s, I can attest to its very see-and-be-seen nature, where tables clustered close together under the glow of flattering light foster a jovial party atmosphere of table hopping and delicious people watching. In terms of inspiration, Pond admits there is a direct through line from the decor at Drake’s Hollywood to Graydon Carter’s famed celebrity haunts Waverly Inn and Monkey Bar revamp in New York. At Monkey Bar, signature caricature murals adorn the walls (care of artist Edward Sorel). Its Drake’s Hollywood, arguably Vandelay’s most high-profile restaurant, is set to open later this year in the former Montrose home of the original Georgia James steakhouse on Westheimer Road. With a weeks-long waits for a table not uncommon at both the Dallas and Beverly Hills Drake’s Hollywood restaurants, we’re guessing you can expect a similar buzz for Houston’s own.
Vandelay Hospitality, the group that operates Hudson House, entered the Houston market a few years ago with East Hampton Sandwich Co., but pulled out around the pandemic. Much like the touted martinis, the food menu at Hudson House offers timeless American fare with approachable prices. Expect staples with a nod to the East Coast like the lobster roll, East Coast oysters, maple-planked salmon, and crab cakes. Other favorites include the signature cheeseburger with Hudson House sauce, steak frites, and Japanese nigiri and sushi rolls. Originally opened in Dallas in 2017, Hudson House takes its inspiration from neighborhood restaurants in New York's West Village. The concept is built around a classic, double patty cheeseburger, an extensive selection of raw oysters, and the self-described "World's Coldest" martinis.
